ECON TINIK (team jhimskii)

As an introduction to our role play, our group created this music video inspired by ABS-CBN’s educational program entitled “Math-Tinik”. We devoted one day for shooting this one. Enjoy! :)

Now for the role play. Since we were tasked to produce a role play about market economy, we have come up with this concept. We incorporated all the lessons we learned from this course and depicted them in all scenes of our role play.

Due to technical problems while shooting this video, the ending of
the act was not successfully captured. We sincerely apologise for
 this problem.

SCENE 1. In the opening scene, two kids (Judy and Olive) and a mom ( Jasmin) were in the living room. The kids were having a hard time answering their assignment about markets, competitive markets in particular. Their mom didn’t know about this matter and told them to call their Ninang Pia Cayetano (Angelica) who is an economist. Pia gave them the definition via Skype and for them to understand further, she instantaneously went to their house and explain what competitive market is while a market video is shown on the background.

SCENE 2. In the next scene, the mother entered again the living room and was asked once more by the kids what deadweight loss and cost of production are. The mom got stressed and decided to leave the house to go to the market. The kids then turned on the TV to watch Dora the Explorer. In its episode, Dora (Diane) helped Diego (Theodore) choose which item causes larger deadweight loss. Later, as the kids got bored, they changed the channel and watched Spongebob Squarepants. In its episode, Mr. Crabs (Ned) was having problems with his cost and Spongebob (Theodore) was there to help him. For a twist and for entertainment, we put Swiper’s character in the scene.

SCENE 3The third scene was designed to depict competition. We showcased two rival brands of liniment with their sellers (Grace and Mischelle) competing with one another. Following this was a scene of two customers (Althea and Pamela) discussing about willingness to pay and consumer surplus.

SCENE 4. The last scene was intended to discuss about equilibrium, shortage and surplus. With Rated K hosted by Korina (Judy) as the concept, we had finally wrapped up our role play.

PRODUCTION

The storyline, proposed and was developed by Angelica Niña Ajos who was assisted by Judy Ann Luna, was inspired by the ABS-CBN’s educational program called, “MATH TINIK”. As agreed by the group, Angelica Niña Ajos decided to create an edited version of the music video “MATH TINIK” as our introduction for the play. It was also agreed that we use pictures as a background through the use of a projector. Below this are pictures during our planning and after the play:
